look! it's a puppy nightlight

Glowing puppies.

Seriously, I get that this comes from some sea anemone, but I'm not sure I want a pet that appears to be radioactive.

If I'm going to go for a nightlight pet, I'd rather have Sheldon's fish:

here's a hint for the newly hitched

If your wife sets you on fire, the honeymoon is over. And wash your feet.
"Wang and his wife, Luo, were married on February 2. The couple, however, frequently fought over trivial things while still on their honeymoon," the official XinhuaM news agency quoted a local newspaper as saying.

The couple, from the central province of Hubei, had another fight on the night of March 4, "and in frustration they together drank a bottle of liquor to ease their anger".

"At about 10 pm, Luo watched her husband get into bed without cleaning or washing his feet. In a fit of anger and intoxication, she set fire to the sheet he was sleeping in."
"When he awoke, the two began fighting before a very drunk Wang collapsed. As fire engulfed the bedroom. Luo escaped to the living room, leaving her other half to burn."
Seriously, how dirty were his feet? She s.e.t. .h.i.m. .o.n. .f.i.r.e.. Good grief!

i have not the words

...to describe my exact reaction to this story.
Teenager Jessica Knight had been lying in a coma for six days in a UK hospital after a stabbing attack on the way home from school. She'd been completely unresponsive until a visit from Geri [Halliwell...Ginger Spice] brought her back from the brink of death.

Visiting the girl's bedside at the request of her family, Geri belted out a few lines of a Spice Girls song and young Jessica immediately started moving her arms and legs. The next day she opened her eyes for the first time.
Good she's out of the coma, I guess.

prod me a little, okay?

Knowing my luck the discovery that something was amiss would happen halfway through my cremation. :)
An 81-year old man in the small Chilean village of Angol shocked his grieving relatives by waking up in his coffin at his own wake, according to local media.

When Feliberto Carrasco's family members discovered his body limp and cold, they were convinced that the octogenarian's hour had come, so they immediately called a funeral home, not a doctor.

Carrasco was dressed in his finest suit for the wake, and his relatives gathered to bid him a final farewell.

"I couldn't believe it. I thought I must be mistaken, and I shut my eyes," Carrasco's nephew Pedro told the daily Ultimas Noticias. "When I opened them again, my uncle was looking at me. I started to cry and ran to get something to open up the coffin to get him out."

The man who "rose from the dead" said he was not in any pain, and only asked for a glass of water.
Yeah. I think I'd be asking for a glass of water...and maybe a small canister of oxygen and some digging tools to carry around with me in case it ever happened again.

Stories like this always make me wonder what happened with the whole 'funeral director preparing the body' thing, but maybe that doesn't apply in small Chilean villages. Either way, I'm thinking some heavy duty double-checking is going to occur the next time this man is considered dead.

Corny puns in the comments are encouraged.

a sight worth seeing

Some people really want to be the centre of attention, and there aren't many better ways to achieve that than having live goldfish, in bowls, for earrings. A weird hat and fake set of boobs also help.

If this guy's goal was to have a crowd of strangers stare at him like he was a little insane, well, mission accomplished. When I took these photos there were about fifty people looking amused and dumbfounded.

the skirt that saved japan

Not a snap from my holiday, but an advert for a skirt that transforms into a vending machine costume to fool stalkers and other miscreants who might be following a Japanese woman home.
I'd love to see a video of the transformation from skirt to this. It would have to be a quick change to fool some follower who's only a block behind you. The pictures (below) don't make it look easy. I want to see how they get from the second stage to the third.

Of course the only reason this could work is because in urban Japan a row of vending machines like this one can be found every few blocks. Apparently it takes the same amount of electricity to run one in summer as the electricity use of an average Japanese household. Yes, in the home of the Kyoto Accord. Scary.

But I digress. If you would like the protection of the transforming skirt (or just think it would make a good Halloween costume) it won't be cheap. This Aya Tsukioka designer skirt sells for around $800.

oblivious on both sides of the camera

[Disclaimer: Now let me just say at the outset that there is going to be a link at the end of this story and if you don't want to see a man waggling his penis about for two seconds, just don't click it. It's actually rather harmless - while you can clearly see what it is, it's far enough away to look more funny than pornographic. But the warning's there for those who don't want to see naked bits at all.]

The big story doing the rounds in Australia yesterday was that of Fox News doing a locker room interview with Manly Sea Eagle Steve Menzies and inadvertantly filming his teammate Michael Robertson "swirling his genitalia about" on the far right of the shot. Apparently it was just a silly attempt to lighten the mood in the locker room (Manly had just lost their rugby grand final), but somehow Robertson managed to completely miss the fact that the TV camera was pointed in his direction.

But here's the thing...it wasn't a live broadcast, and Fox did spot the problem later and scrap the footage. It should never have aired. And then an enterprising young Fox employee decided to email the footage to a friend. Can you grasp already where this is headed? Yep. The friend immediately posted it on Youtube. You guessed it...one fired Fox employee! I've always wondered if cameras in the locker room were a good idea. After that shmozzle, Michael Robertson probably doesn't think so.

And as promised, here's the link.

stuff on jimmy's blog

If you visit Jimmy's blog today you will find a couple of things other than posts:

1. You'll be able to see where I found out about the Google widget fish tank that is now on my sidebar (click to feed the fish!) I was thinking what to name my three and I've settled on Faith, Hope and Charity... No of course I'm not serious. I think I'm going for Yin (black), Yang (white) and Rhonda (red).

And speaking of fish, check these out. And people say goldfish only have short term memory. These synchronised swimmers beg to differ. I consider that myth well and truly busted.

2. You will also see the results of his recent poll on chocolate. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME, people who read Jimmy's blog?! HERSHEY'S won? Seriously, how did Hershey's win over Lindt and Godiva? Had a bunch of people never TASTED Lindt and Godiva? And where the heck is CADBURY? Creamy, delicious Cadbury chocolate is not even on the list. And don't give me that 'other' crap. Cadbury is not a nameless other, thank you very much. Hershey mumbles incoherently whenever Cadbury walks in the room, it's so overawed. Godiva shakes its head and says, 'damn, I know I'm good, but how does Cadbury do it for a fifth of the price?' CADBURY, people - try it today!

it's raining...crocodiles?

Residents in the Russian nuclear research town of Sarov got a jaw-dropping surprise when a crocodile fell from the twelfth-storey apartment of its owner.
The one-metre caiman crocodile landed on a pavement after leaning too far out of the window of the apartment where it had lived for the last 15 years, the RIA Novosti news agency quoted an official with the local branch of the ministry as saying.
Frightened passers-by called the emergency services and rescuers managed to lasso the stunned animal and take it to a shelter for stray pets.
It was soon returned to its owner, unharmed apart from damage to one of its teeth, the official said.
1. What kind of person keeps a croc (boa constrictor, tarantula, etc) as a pet? Anyone had any weird pets? What made you decide to go for the non-traditional option? Did you enjoy the adventure or end up regretting the choice of pet?

2. It fell 12 floors and only damaged a tooth?! Wow, apart from it's sturdy croc hide there must be some truth to that theory that you stay more relaxed and don't get as badly injured if you don't know what's coming.
