strange how it only just occurred to me...

That Youtube is like having Neil Gaiman on tap. ^_^ I just added about twenty Neil vids to my favourites.

I go through phases with Youtube, getting onto one theme or another and pursuing it until some other shiny object catches my eye. These phases are evident when you look through my favs. Neil is the most recent addition. Before him there was a series of David Bowie interviews. Before that it was a pile of 80s music videos, including a lot of early Blondie and my favourite Elvis Costello song. For a while I couldn't get enough of Van Hansis and his storyline on a daytime soap we don't get here, which led me to discover a random Catalan soap opera. At one point I was collecting Post Secret videos and TV commercials I thought were cool. And there's always a healthy dose of random weirdness thrown in for good effect.

And now it's 5am. Playing in my favourites pool on a week night is not wise...

George Bush has stolen an election, invaded a country on false pretences, tortured, lied and not signed the Kyoto Agreement, but now...his watch has been stolen.

Oh and here's the video (thank you, Youtube!) of the my favourite insult post a bit back. I've watched all six seasons now (six episodes of about twenty minutes ~ it's not enough) so I'll stop babbling about 8 out of 10 cats until next year.

Visa Card Customer Service Rep: Hang on, are you the Neil Gaiman?
Neil: Yes, I am.
VCCSR: So...are you going to be writing an episode of Dr Who?
Neil: ... o_O?

I do wonder at what point this sort of stuff moves to the need for super-secret dealings. I know that authors don't pull the same kind of scrutiny that A-list actors do, though the man has quite the cult following, but when will he be so famous that he needs to ensure that the customer service reps he deals with have some kind of clearance? Does that come guaranteed with the Platinum card? I wonder...

[Disclaimer: Now let me just say at the outset that there is going to be a link at the end of this story and if you don't want to see a man waggling his penis about for two seconds, just don't click it. It's actually rather harmless - while you can clearly see what it is, it's far enough away to look more funny than pornographic. But the warning's there for those who don't want to see naked bits at all.]

The big story doing the rounds in Australia yesterday was that of Fox News doing a locker room interview with Manly Sea Eagle Steve Menzies and inadvertantly filming his teammate Michael Robertson "swirling his genitalia about" on the far right of the shot. Apparently it was just a silly attempt to lighten the mood in the locker room (Manly had just lost their rugby grand final), but somehow Robertson managed to completely miss the fact that the TV camera was pointed in his direction.

But here's the thing...it wasn't a live broadcast, and Fox did spot the problem later and scrap the footage. It should never have aired. And then an enterprising young Fox employee decided to email the footage to a friend. Can you grasp already where this is headed? Yep. The friend immediately posted it on Youtube. You guessed it...one fired Fox employee! I've always wondered if cameras in the locker room were a good idea. After that shmozzle, Michael Robertson probably doesn't think so.
